I play no other MMO because IHate the idea of having to pay to play a game. I would go back to role playing games like NWN or something that I could play by myself and for No monthly charge. So if GW went to pay to play then no I would not play

Money is god. It can control everything. If they charge monthly fee, who the hell will play GW anyway?

I would not pay to play this or any other game, although I am kind of tempted to play Age of Conan. The main reason is I would feel like i'm re-buying the game over, and over, and over. With GW I can just come home, play the game whenever I feel like it, and use that extra $15 a month for some cold ones or something.

I do think it is rather humourous that many people are saying "no if I had to pay for this game I'd go play another game, such as WoW". LoL...I wonder how it makes Anet feel that their game would probably be dead with a monthly fee involved??
The reason that I would take WoW if such thing have appened cause I stil think Anet Hates Grinders. Nerf Nerf Nerf. Wow is a grind friendly game. And after doing storyline I think only thing to do is grind. And you know, vanguising is a grind for me. Skillin hunting is a grind for me. Cartograping is a grind for me. Protector is a grind for me. That we allwas vanguish different areas, kill bosses in different ares and such doesnt mean we arent grinding. Grinding is mindlessly doing same thing over and over to get somethin. So if they arent grind, killing trolls then mapping and killing hydras, then zoning fo griffons then going vermin run, then uw then for... WOULDNT BE GRIND

agreed. I played GW when i was in Uni. At that time i didn't have much money so the concept of "No monthly fees" appealed to me. Now that i'm working i don't feel the pinch of WoW's monthly fees thus i am now playing WoW.

In other news: Free-to-play is Arenanet's #1 selling point for their game. Sure, if it was pay-to-play from the beginning, they would still have people playing it, but I guarantee it would be not nearly as many as there are now. I also guarantee that if they change business models at any point, they will lose nearly everyone. It has less to do with Guild Wars not being worth a monthly payment, and more to do with breaking a good model ("It was fine when it was free, now it just sucks").

Its No WoW (i feel the flames coming). But grafics and game play are better.. you can play PVE and have your Cake PVP GVG .......GVG Vrs GWEN..... Now why would anyone want to pay 15 bucks a month for something that you can do on your free time and not have to worry about spending the time you spent on paying for time in game...

PS Thanks for the Comment.. you can steal if you really want it

...I wouldn't be playing.

Not because it ain't good enough to play or smthng like that - I love GW and I think its the best MOG ever, but simply because I refuse to pay monthly for games. Little maths shows me it costs more than I agree to spend on one kind of entertainment every month, and defenetly more than I agree to spend on a game.

Give me proper balance, frequent extensions of the map/enemies/skins and/or expansions and I don't have a problem with paying.

Default Games and Cable TV

I paid to play back in the UO days, but got away from it and picked up GW. I got into GW and was turned off by the nerfs so it in fact was motivation for me to try WoW.

I don't even pay for cable tv. Quite a few people will not pay to play for a persistent game, but instead of watching TV over the air (I watch HDTV over the air) or buy/rent a DVD they'll pay ungodly amounts of money to subscribe to cable tv and the premium channels (almost all of which will eventually be on DVD in a single or set and probably even be discounted).

I wouldn't play GW now in its current state P2P. I wouldn't pick up a game by ANet in its current state for P2P. I do play WoW somewhat. I still don't pay money to subscribe to television when I can buy/rent movies or watch tv over the air. If you think about it, the money people spend for a game is nothing compared to how much they spend on cable tv. They'll probably even spend more time on the game than watching cable tv. Then there's people that will subscribe to radio as well lol. Everyone has their own opinions, but I wouldn't really consider the opinion of someone that says they won't pay to play (assuming they play a considerable amount) but would pay for premium cable or satellite radio.

I have a problem with the concept of paying to buy the game and then paying again to play it.
If I didn't have to buy the interface, I would probably pay a monthly fee if it wasn't too high.
If I have to buy the interface, I won't pay to play.

the only way i would consider paying to play any mmorpg is if the buisness model was more like pay as you go mobile phones. download the client and set up an account for fre but pay for time online. say £6-£10 for 100hours.

That way when you're playing you wouldnt feel costrained buy the fact that your paying for time your not using. e.g buy 100 hours play 7 hours on your first night and you still have 93 hours of game time left when you come back next week.

as is mentioned by some1 else before i am also put off games when i feel i'm not only buying they game but then paying for the privilege of of playing it..the notices on the front of game boxes always seem like an insult when they say
"30 days free subsription with this pack!!" its not free it says £39.99 on the box

Default No monthly fee?

Hmmm... Guildwars does have some sort of a monthly fee with the BIG, no wait HUGE, difference that you can stop paying it anytime and continue playing whatever content you bought. If you bought everything since prophecies you've paid the equivalent of a montly fee for other games.

Now, if it had a monthly fee upfront I wouldn't play it.

People are assuming that gameplay would be better if they had more money... I don't think they're suffering from a money crisis, so there'd be no point.

Nope I wouldn't have even thought about buying the game in the first place. I play because there is no monthly fees.
